Philippine Robotics Academy as Classroom Strategy

As our education environment continues to evolve and new technologies are introduced as classroom strategy, the Philippine Robotics Academy (PRA) was established in Dr. Yanga's Colleges Inc. (DYCI), Claret School of Quezon City , and Saint Michael's College of Laguna .

The PRA explores learning targets on Information and Communication Techlonogy (ICT), using simulations and exploring models, Investigative Science, Technology, Mathematics and Language and Proficiency.

Each student from Grade 4-12 will explore robotics technological concepts . FELTA Multi-Media inc., will provide Robotics textbooks, Robotics Curriculum, Teacher Training (Level 1-3) , Technical Mentoring, LEGO Education NXT #9797 kits and computer laptops.

The Philippine Robotics Academy will revolutionize E-ducation in the Philippines!

11th Philippine Robotics Olympiad Launch

The 11th Philippine Robotics Olympiad Launch was held last June 20, 2012 at the Quezon City Interactive Science Center (QCISC). The highlight of the event is a Robot Demonstration from several 10th PRO awardees. Undersecretary Fortunato dela Pena, Undersecretary-Department of Science & Technology was the Keynote speaker. Dr. Filma Brawner, Director-Science Education Institute- Department of Science & Technology and Dr. Betty Cavo, Asst. Schools Division Superindent-DEPED-QC gave inspirational messages as well. SEI-DOST is the Implementing Agency of the Philippine Robotics Olympiad and supported by DEPED.

Board of Judges took their Pledge of Integrity , signing of the Memorandum of Agreement and Testimonials from students who have participated in the 10th Philippine Robotics Olympiad was also part of the Program.

The Media gave their full support to the Philippine Robotics Olympiad. Several photographers and TV crew attended and featured the event. The 11th Philippine Robotics Olympiad Dry run will be held on August 11 (Claret QC), Preliminaries September 5 (SM EDSA Annex Bldg) and Finals September 7 (SM EDSA Annex Bldg). Goodluck to all teams!

11th Philippine Robotics Olympiad Advisory Committee Meeting

Today, June 1, 2012, the 11th Philippine Robotics Olympiad Advisory Committee had our meeting to culminate this year's Robotics event.

Looking back, I am still in awe that from 2002 with only 36 teams, in 2011 we now have 286 teams participating in the PRO. We expect to have over 300 teams in 2012. Over 4,600+ student's lives have been touched...most of them have taken an Engineering, Computer Science or related S&T course in College. My next step is to begin the tedious task of organizing a Philippine Robotics Olympiad Alumni Association (PROAA). A group of former PRO students who are now part of the IT workforce or have proceeded to venture into an Engineering career.

I will NEVER tire of seeing the smiling faces of these "young geniuses"...when they see their Robots completing a task/challenge , dancing, singing, planting, cooking or even playing Tic-tac-toe! Techies Rock.

QCISC Robotics Team COURTESY CALL@ DEPED QC

I was so amazed with the performance of the Quezon City Interactive Science Center (QCISC) Robotics Team during the 1st FLL Philippines held last February 25, 2012 at QC Interactive Science Center. These boys came from six (6) different public elementary schools: GSIS Elementary School, Pagasa Elementary School, Mines Elementary School, Cubao Elementary School, Camp Crame Elementary School & San Francisco Elementary School.

These 10 -11 year olds are the "All Stars" of DEPED Quezon City during their qualifyer robotics competition. It is the first time that QCISC joined an inter-school robotics event. They have bested veteran schools that have been participating in the Philippine Robotics Olympiad for several years.

Dr. Corazon Rubio (far left) , Schools Division Superintendent-Quezon City encouraged the students to continue their passion for Robotics . With Dr. Rubio and the QCISC Robotics Team is Mylene Abiva (far right) , National Organizer, Philippine Robotics Olympiad and FLL Philippines.

1st   FLL Philippines a FUN  Robo Success

FIRST LEGO Leagues is an international program for children, created in partnership between FIRST Foundation and The LEGO Group in 1998. FLL introduces children to the fun and experience of solving real-world problems by applying math, science,  and technology. Each year, more than 200,000 children ages 9-16 years old from fifty-five (55) countries participate.

FLL Philippines was held at the Quezon City Interactive Science Center (QCISC) with fifteen (15) pioneer schools consisting of 10 students/team from as far as Cebu and Bicol or a total of 150 students .

This year 2012, the theme is “FOOD FACTOR” Keeping Food Safe. With the FLL Food Factor challenge, teams will explore the topic of food safety and examine the possible points of contamination our food encounters-from exposure to insects and creatures, to unsterile processing and transportation, to unsanitary preparation and storage-then find ways to prevent or combat these contaminants.

The winner of the Champion’s award is DYCI Blue Ocean 10 from Dr. Yangas Colleges Inc. and will represent the Philippines to the FLL World Festival to be held in St. Louis, MO, USA on April 24-30,2012 .
